Research description

Melanotan I (afamelanotide, MT-1) is a synthetic linear analogue of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), a tridecapeptide in which norleucine replaces methionine at position 4 and D-phenylalanine replaces L-phenylalanine at position 7. These changes make it more stable than the natural hormone.

It is studied in laboratory research on the melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R) and melanogenesis in melanocyte cell-culture models.
