Research description

MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded by a short open reading frame in the 12S ribosomal RNA gene of mitochondrial DNA. It belongs to the mitochondrial-derived peptides.

It is studied in laboratory research on mitochondrial–nuclear communication, AMPK signalling and cellular metabolism in cell-culture and tissue models.
